2015 has not been my best year ever. It is however proving to be my most promising year ever. in April of this year I began practicing Nichiren Buddhism as a member of the Sokka Gakkai (value creation society). And while I can’t say it has led me to all the answers I seek, it has answered more than I thought it would.
This year I began working on real research at ODU under Dr. Crompton in the department of teaching and learning, while the project has only just gotten started so far it has been exhilarating and I am looking forward to having my name appear in a by line as part of a published scholarly article many times next year and in the future.
2015 has also seen a reduction in my legendary and prolific abuse of alcohol recreational drugs and the kindness of many girls who probably should have known better.
2015 despite all of these victories has been a hard year at the start of it I believed that I was on a sure path to mediocrity I thought that my destiny was set in stone and I would simply have to live it out. Overcoming this mindset has been painful way more painful than being electrocuted or punched in the face ever was.
- In 2011 I made more money than I did in 2015
- In 2012 I made more friends than I did in 2015
- In 2013 I had better grades than I did in 2015
- In 2014 I partied harder than I did in 2015
- In 2015 I have overcome more fear than in another year.
- In 2016 I will WIN more than ever before.
2016 is the first new year in a long time that I believe will hold more possibilities and opportunities than the previous year.
Some of the things I hope to accomplish and in the spirit of this article. Which I have shared multiple times in the past. I am including methods for my goals.
Regular Fitness Schedule — now that I am not destroying myself with alcohol and drugs I intend to get back into shape. — To achieve this goal, I have purchased a small stair stepper so that I can get some exercise while still working at my standing desk and I will be dedicating 45 minutes to a bodyweight fitness routine 4 days a week. https://www.reddit.com/r/bodyweightfitness/ has been helpful in getting me started again.
Good grades -nothing less than a B no B- or bellow allowed — I have allowed my extracurricular pursuits to take away from my studies and it is unacceptable. — To achieve this goal will require me to have a dedicated studying system. I intend to use the Pomodoro Technique. I’m not asking myself for A’s because I do still want to dedicate myself to many extracurricular pursuits.
Build bigger/stronger district — As young men’s division leader for the SGI Norfolk West District I must fight for the happiness of all the people in my district. — I have no idea how I am going to do this one
Read War and Peace —- I started reading war and peace back in September I still haven’t finished I will finish before 2016 is half over. — I have the book and I have a special book mark that helps me keep track of all the characters and locations which should make the reading go smoother.
Read more regularly— After finishing War and peace I intend to continue reading regularly perhaps the Romance of the Three Kingdoms will be next. — This will involve maintaining momentum I must acquire the new book before war and peace is finished but not so soon that I am used to having it on my shelf unread.
Become a stronger go player — Mr. Jun Assai and I have been meeting semi regularly to play go and currently he is leaps and bounds better than me but I intend to beat him before the year is out. I have added a go puzzle to my morning routine every morning now so that I can become a little better every day.
Finish Children’s book — Some of you know I have been working on a children’s book for the past several years, details must unfortunately be kept secret for legal reasons but I hope to complete the first volume in 2016. I have put out casually that I am looking for an artist to help me finish and the hunt is ongoing.
